Living the dream.
I felt warm from the inside and had a big smile on my face.
The champagne bottle was standing unopened in front of me. When I looked a head I saw that he had the same big smile on this face as I did. And to make the smile even bigger, the week after I was standing there again. It was not the Dutch anthem playing yet… but I am sure with patience that will come.
Looking back on 2017 makes a big smile on my face.
I remember in January I struggled to do exercise. In June I started racing, unfit but because of my teammembers Jorik, Rachel and Marco I was able to race the teamrelay where we won the bronze medal. Thanks to these three for the faith in me!
The week after I medalled individual in Tiszjauvaros, Hungary. I felt far from good in the race but I sprinted my way to the podium.
Every season has some downs as well learning points, like doing to much work in Sarasota on the windy run. But to be honest, if you would tell me these results on the start of my season, I would have singed up for it!
The road wasn’t easy at all. Losing confidence in your self because people said it was a mental issue and facing people with no trust. Off course I faced also people who give me the comfort and believe, helped me out in what was the best for me and gave me opportunities to develop my self. Made this road is not only a learning school but worthwhile as well.
I made some different moves to open a new fresh book.
Guido started to help me out with my built up of training. While Ron did the hard work on the Slingerberg with me. Olaf and Gaan voor Goud made sure I had medical and mental support in the healing proces of my bacteria. Kor, Jessica and Armin made sure I didn’t have to worry about my material.
Every book has some chapters and after the healing process started a built up process. I started this process at home. Good support and listening to my body was the main key. And stays the main key. The best envoirment was to train just by myself or with Ron or my dad, no competition. The process continued and I started to struggle a little with just me. I got an opportunity from Jonathon Hall to join his squad in Colorado Springs on a trainingcamp to see I like it. So after the World Cup Sarasota I flew to Colorado.
Where I didn’t have a warm but a bloody hot welcome from my host family, the McDowells. They spoiled me in every way. The 3 weeks has bin flying past.
In the Springs it started to get Autumn as well. Where the flu went round too, one of the teammembers got it. And pasted it over to the other. I was hoping I would get left out, but on the way to Japan I start to feel my throat and got a cough.
The race in Japan was hard, but I finished 20th. I was sure I had made another step in the right direction in Colorado but because of the circumstances I was not able to show it.
But I found what I was looking for, a funny and happy squad where I can continue my road to 2020 Tokyo!
First time to chill out a bit. Where I can start organisign myself becasue after xmas with the family i twill be time to pack the bags and join JH squad in Phoenix. Excited!!!!
